Rules

House Rules of the Swiss Mountain-Valley View Lodge
Ensuring a Memorable Stay for our Guests

To ensure that both parties, we as your hosts and you as our highly valued guests, have a positive experience, while offering this cozy place for your vacation,  it’s essential to set some helpful and concise house rules. These rules not only protect the property but also set the right expectations for our guests.

By establishing house rules for our vacation home, we want to create a framework for a positive experience for ourselves and our guests. By providing these guidelines on behavior and responsibilities, we also want to create an atmosphere of respect and understanding for our guests. Clearly communicated rules not only protect our property, but also lay the foundation for unforgettable vacations and ensure that our guests leave with fond memories and a desire to return.

Below, we outline our key house rules to ensure a smooth and enjoyable vacation experience for everyone involved.

In the days before arrival, our guests receive a detailed and comprehensive version of our house rules by email. This version does not really contain more rules, but more helpful tips and information on:

  • Arrival
  • Check-in
  • During the stay
  • Guest cards
  • Activities and discounts
  • Check-out

Check-in and Check-out Times

Our general times are as follows:

  • Check-in from 2:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Check-out from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

For arrival or departure outside of normal times, we ask guests to contact us in writing in advance. We will check the options and confirm or reject accordingly.

Guest information

Guests do not have to provide their address when booking.

Before arrival, guests must send the following information to the SMVVL:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Date of birth of each guest

This information is required to issue the tourist cards for the guests. With the guest cards, holidaymakers receive discounts on mountain railways, museums, etc. Public transport in the region can also be used freely.

No Smoking Policy

In order to provide a pleasant and welcoming environment for all guests, there is a strict smoking ban throughout the entire house. Smoking is also not permitted in the garden. Smokers are only allowed to use the terrace by the house's own fountain, which faces east. The prerequisite is that smokers take care of their own cigarette disposal. The windows and doors on all floors must also be closed to prevent smoke and its smell from entering the building. Following this rule is also necessary to protect the property from possible fire hazards and unpleasant smells.

Pet Policy

We love pets but, others may have allergies or simply prefer a pet-free environment and we want to respect this. Therefore, no pets allowed. Sorry.

Guest Capacity Limit

To ensure both safety and comfort for our guests, the Swiss Mountain-Valley View Lodge maximum capacity is 5 (people). This limit accounts for the home’s size and the availability of amenities such as beds and bathrooms. There are two bedrooms with double beds and we have one moveable single bed, which can be placed according to our guests needs it. This additional single bed can be placed in the bigger bedroom or in the lounge between bedrooms and bathrooms. This option is a good one for families with three children, but is only a compromise for a group of 5 adults. More than five people cannot and will not be accepted by SMVVL and in the event of potential overcrowding we reserve the right to cancel the entire booking without refund.

Noise Levels and Quiet Hours

Maintaining a peaceful environment is vital, especially in residential and vacation neighborhoods. Our noise level guidelines and quiet hours are between 10 PM and 8 AM, when guests should refrain from loud activities to respect the neighbors. All yours and our neighbors respect these same quiet hours, so that everyone can enjoy the magic of the nights in Simmental.

Respect for Neighbors

Respecting the surrounding community fosters good relations between our guests, other tourists and the long-term residents in the neighborhood. The SMVVL has great neighbors, some of them have vacation rentals as well. Greet them when ever you see them (Swiss people just love to greet each other by saying "Hallo" or "Grüezi), but also behaviors such as keeping noise to a minimum, parking only in designated areas, and respecting local customs or regulations. And if guests really want to get deeper into some Swiss traditions, we can provide tips on local attractions or events to enhance their stay while supporting the community.

Cleanliness and Maintenance

You are spending your holiday in a private holiday home. We have put a lot of effort into the furnishings and hope that you have a wonderful holiday here in the Simmental. By treating the house properly, guests help us to be able to provide other holidaymakers with a beautiful holiday home in the future. Please treat the property and all the furnishings as if they were your own. It can also happen from time to time that something is damaged or does not work properly in the house. Guests are asked not to fix these things themselves. Always report any damage or problems to our team immediately, we will take care of it. It is a matter close to our hearts to give our guests a wonderful and carefree holiday.

Use of the garden furniture - Outdoor lounge

The garden furniture is weatherproof, but we ask our guests to remove all seat cushions and fabric covers from the garden furniture in the evening and/or after use and store them in the designated basement room. Even if the weather forecast only predicts good weather, in the mountains it is always possible that the weather will change and local rainstorms can never be ruled out.

Security and Safety Measures

The Swiss Mountain-Valley View Lodge is a historic building that is protected as a heritage site and was built around 280 years ago. The building and the neighboring houses are built and furnished with a lot of wood. It is therefore particularly important to point out fire hazards. For this reason, it is not permitted to light any fires in the SMVVL house or garden. This is also one more reason why there is a strict smoking ban in and around the entire building. If a fire or smoke does occur, there are two fire extinguishers and fire blankets available in the house. One set is in the small room next to the dining area, the second set is in the stairwell to the basement. At the same time, we would like to point out the emergency number 112. This number should be dialed immediately if necessary. The neighbors should also be informed at the same time; they can provide support in an emergency and get themselves to safety. If there is a fire in the garden, there is also the option of using one of the water connections outside the house or the well to extinguish small fires with spring water. The good news is that the building has been around for almost 280 years and in all that time there has never been an accident due to fire, water or other natural forces. If guests want to use the wood stoves in the house in winter, this must be reported to the staff so that the stoves can be handled properly.

Consequences for violations of the rules

For the sake of form, we must point out that there must be consequences for violations of the above-mentioned house rules. If the smoking ban in the house is not observed, an additional cleaning fee of CHF 900.00 will be charged. Negligent damage to property will be charged to the person responsible with a compensation/invoice covering the new value of the damaged or destroyed items. Intentional damage to property can also lead to a police report being filed against the person responsible. Of course, something can always break, a glass breaks or an electronic device suddenly stops working. All of this can happen and does not have to lead to additional costs. It is therefore important that guests in such cases report the defects or damage to our team immediately.
